I was standing on a wooden platform on the bank of the Zambezi River gazing at the magical vista. As I walked along the forested river bank breathing in the fresh air, I wondered how one man changed the landscapes along the river and around the magnificent Victoria Falls. The land used to be inhabited by the Lozi people, who were survivors from the disintegration of the Rozwi kingdom of Great Zimbabwe.

I’m at the Toka Leya Camp which is located at Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

It’s June 2023 and I’m heading to Sarawak on Borneo Island to attend the Rainforest World Music Festival in the Sarawak Cultural Village near the city of Kuching. It was going to be amazing to touch down on the third largest island in the world which is shared by three countries: Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.

The 26th edition of Rainforest World Music Festival theme was ‘Reflections’, bringing as it does music and nature lovers together in the natural setting of the Borneo Jungle. The music festival allows the participants the opportunity to embrace sounds of music through the diversity of world culture and the local traditions of indigenous people.

The iconic Victoria Falls Hotel is unlike any other traditional hotel. It’s a historic hotel that was built as part of an ambitious project amidst an extraordinary landscape, one of the natural wonders of the world. Its existence is due to the development of the railway system in Zimbabwe in the early 20^th century. The original structure was built to accommodate the workers on the railway.
