Toka Leya, an ideal base for some great adventures

I was standing on a wooden platform on the bank of the Zambezi River gazing at the magical vista. As I walked along the forested river bank breathing in the fresh air, I wondered how one man changed the landscapes along the river and around the magnificent Victoria Falls. The land used to be inhabited by the Lozi people, who were survivors from the disintegration of the Rozwi kingdom of Great Zimbabwe.

I’m at the Toka Leya Camp which is located at Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

48 Hours in Devon, Part 2: On to Torquay

I arrived at the city of Torquay and spent some time by the harbour before going to my hotel. It was a sunny day in mid-April and the city had just began to recover from the effects of the pandemic. The harbour was relatively quiet with just a few tourists taking pictures of the beautiful boats and yachts moored there. People were enjoying the outdoor cafes and restaurants, some of whom were still wearing masks. This is the birthplace of Agatha Christie, born here in 1890.

I had passed through Torquay a few times in the past but now I had the opportunity to stay for 48 hours and discover those pristine seaside, picturesque villages, and charming landscapes and taste the local foods that I had heard about.

Dining at Hilton London Croydon

Our stay at Hilton London Croydon gave us the great opportunity to see London from a different perspective. After a day exploring what Croydon has to offer including spending time in Croydon’s large shopping center (called the Whitgift Centre), and walking in Lloyd Park near the hotel, now it was time to treat ourselves to a romantic and memorable evening. We sat at a reserved table in a quiet corner of the Lounge Bar. There is also the Larder restaurant in the hotel, which offers a different ambiance.

The Royal Heritage of Bhopal’s Begums (Part 1) – Jehan Numa Palace

While our world is still male dominated it might be amazing for us to find a state in India that was once ruled by women in the 19th century. However, it is true in the case of Bhopal. Only a century after the city of Bhopal was founded in 1707 by Nawab Dost Muhammad Khan, the princely power was transferred to the Begums of Bhopal in 1819. The Begum means a Muslim woman of high rank
