The Cruise Days in Hamburg – Part 1

I arrived in the city of Hamburg in September 2019 during the Cruise Days event. It was a very long time since my last visit, nearly 25 years ago, but my memory of the old town, the harbour, the river, the inner lake and all city attractions and landmarks were still fresh in my head.

The rock-cut tombs of Dalyan

The rock-cut tombs of Dalyan

Dalyan, on the southwest coast of Turkey, is not a beach resort but an inland town that attracts visitors due to the impressive Kaunian rock-cut tombs.

These are the mighty remains of the ancient port city of Kaunos.  It was founded in the tenth century BC, as a port city. With magnificent temple tombs cut high on the face of the rocky mountains ( to properly enjoy the sight, take a boat trip) you can drive to the highest point on the cliffs, which used to be a gateway to the city’s harbour. From here you see Dalyan River on one side and Suluklu Lake on the other.

Review: Corinthia Hotel Prague

When I arrived in my executive double room on 23rd floor of the Corinthia Hotel Prague, I felt that I am residing in the watchtower of a giant fortress overlooking a protected city across the famous Nusle Bridge. The Hotel was just like my gateway to Prague, on my first visit to the city. It took me a while before I unpacked my luggage, as I was fascinated with panoramic view of the historic city.

Mons: Doudou Festival

Mons: Doudou Festival

The city of Mons transforms into a mass ritual of joy on the weekend of Trinity Sunday during the Doudou festival. The whole city partakes in celebrating Ducasse de Mons. Every corner of the old medieval town leading to the main square is decorated and food and drink stalls are set up to serve the large crowd. The locals, young and old, children and all family members gather in cobbled streets, joined by tourists and people from nearby villages and larger cities such as Brussels. Modern and traditional Belgian music plays loudly from every street. I had never witnessed such a huge celebration in one city.
